I agree that the Internet plays an important role when it comes to teaching and learning. For the former, it is worth mentioning that when the teachers are online their teacher-talking-time is reduced as they can get the students to access online dictionaries, images and a myriad of extra resources. As for the latter, the students who have access to the internet can share their ideas through blogs, podcasts, videos, etc.
In regards to this article and the tools that its author presented, I would use the Hot Potatoes authoring software because it would help me when it comes to creating multiple-choice questions, jumbled-sentence tasks and other types of activities that would be useful for me as a teacher.
Apart from Hot Potatoes, Zoomerang would be really nice to be used for it allows me to create more interactive questionnaires which would be stored and administered by Zoomerang. In other words, I would create the questionnaire and Zoomerang would process the data for further analisys.
To sum up, many are the possibilities and it is up to the teacher to select the one which best meets his/her expectations.

Hi ya : It is good for teachers to have a wide variety of tools for creating activities for the students. However, one thing to take into account whenever we decide to use a new technology is to make sure all of the students can have access or else it can become very frustrating for the students as well as for the teacher. I´d like to use one of the authoring tools suggested in the reading but most of the links are broken.
I would like to have the students describing their room or their office in case of business students.
Thnxs, bye.

Hi I must say I have been checking the suggested readings with so many online tools to create a lesson, but really don't know which one to choose. I would like to have those lessons both saved online but also be able as printables because some of my students don't have a possibility to use them online. I really don't know which one to choose. I think I like hotpotatoes, but has to be installed first and Discovery Chanell also looks interesting, if you just want printable worksheets you don't have to register and so many great puzzlemakers can be made for use later in the classroom. I wanted to share an activity that I created but the URL wasn't stored so I will have to register first and later create another lesson to share with you. I have created House Vocabulary criss-cross and will use it with my students this week just for fun and revision of this type of vocabulary we have been doing for the last two weeks. To sum up, it will probably take me more than just one week to see which online tools I can use in the future.

I have read the article and checked on some of the links. I was really excited by the fact that I had so many tools in my hands. It's been some time now that I was thinking of creating puzzles and crosswords as supplementary exercises for further assimilation, or extra material for early finishers. I have already prepared 3 puzzles for today's classes, it is really fun. Of course I need more time to explore all of the links, but I am really optimistic and I know they will be really useful. It is fascinating how the net can facilitate a teacher's life and I am really sorry I haven't attended a similar course so far!!!

Hi, your are right Internet gives a lot of opportunities for us teachers, especially for language instruction. It would be great to see your HotPot activities in BAW wiki and I am excited to see your Zoomerang activities. I have just started using HotPot even I heard about the application almost ten years ago.

Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts after reading and activities trial. As for registration problems, you shoulnd't be worry about registration. Some sites are free for teachers. For example, you may use Script-O for 30 days and ProProfs is free for own use. ClassMarker is also free but of course you need to register to have your own account. My congratulations on creating the activity. Please let us know how teaching was for your students. It would be great to know. As for printing, you may print from activities and go to the classroom. For example, please, try Script-O and Pro-Profs for the trial. I will send you more information on others. Look where you can print. larisaeflactivities.pbworks.com/w/page/35662212/Photos

Hello, Larissa&Valentina, I have read the readings` material and had a look at the links recommended there. I have no words indeed how to express my delight, it`s really incredible. To find out all these wonderful tools to be free, of course it is so astounding and absolutely marvelous!!! But when I tried to install the Hot Potatoes into my school computer where I am learning in this course it demanded the Administrator`s permission. To do this I need to ask tomorrow to install it in and it is some mess. I am sure I`ll succeed then, at least in this issue. As I see, it is too easy for other participants, they have even made their own worksheets already. For me, it will take a time, sorry, I am too slow as my Internet. Nevertheless, I like it ! ;D

Please do not forget to send the links to your HotPots to our participants page: baw2011participants.pbworks.com/w/page/31846835/Participant_WorkYou will catch up for sure. Don't worry. It took me almost five years to start using HotPot :-)))) Best, Larisa

Wow! this is a great little collection of websites and software.
I love the fact that some of them are free and easy to install and run. Sometimes it can take a lot time to look for good websites and programs to make different quizzes, because you don't want them to all look the same (gotta have diversity, right?).
The internet has so much to offer but it can be overwhelming sometimes, with so many options and not knowing which one is the best. So, it's really nice to have some options narrowed down for us. Thanks!!

Dear Larissa, I like the activities posted at your wiki very much. I am learning to use Hot Potatoes now, but I don't know how to post the activities to blogs or wikis. I have downloaded the program and it can be used only off line. Could you help me? I have the similar problem with tools for educators. www.toolsforeducators.com/spelling/prepositions.php I have saved the activity but it is not available. Nataliya, Ukraine

Hello everybody, I think knowing that you have so many free tools available is always fascinating. It always brings a different dimension to the activity I believe, and they are so convenient especially for us to be able to carry out meaningful actiivties even though our students are remote (in the case of online classes or blended classes). However, to catch up with all of them is not so easy, and trying to find out what's best for my own context and for my own students. This makes you try them first for yourself. For example, you first have to learn how to use one tool yourself, and then think about an activity that could be created with that specific tool. After you finish it, you need to think of the best possible way to present it to the students thinking of their own access to the facilities (computer, internet connection, etc.). In the meantime, you need to think of the possible ways of introducing how to operate these tools (where to click, etc.) to the students. So, sometimes, that makes me scared when preparing something with an internet tool. I always think beforehand: "what is my primary goal? and what is the least time-consuming way to achieve this goal?" or I consider the balance between the learning outcome, "is it really worth the possible problems that may occur because of the technology aspect? or is it better/easier/quicker to use the traditional alternative (e.g. paper-and-pencil)? In short, I usually think that when considering to use an online/CALL tool for a face-to-face classroom, I should always be aware of this aspect, and make my decisions accordingly, and not use the technology just for the sake of technology. What do you all think?

Hi to you all! I've read the material and I've found it amazing!! Too many links or sites to take advantage of! I've been trying to download Hot Potatoes but it requires a lot of time but I guess I'll download it soon. I've also found a new site which I published in the Yahoo Messages which is English Attack where a lot of activities can be done. For those of you who like songs, I have uploaded some activities: scribd.com/mariabossa As Marijana said, too many tools for newbies! I guess it'll take some time to "study"all of them and decide which one is the best or suits my necessities! Smiles from hot Argentina, Maria
